Show Notes

0:00: Justin and Helen once again get together to chat about what they’ve been up to over the past few weeks, which was stopping by SPX for Helen while Justin talks about now having the final volume of Bookworm in his hands and watching the first two episodes of Fragrant Flower.

News

17:00: The two briefly discuss a bit about, you guessed it, tariffs! Though at the moment they’re still in effect, it has ruled most of it is illegal so how long it’ll stay like this even once the October 14 deadline arrives is currently a mystery.

20:10: So if you thought Yokohama Animation Lab’s troubles would end following their efforts with Whisper Me a Love Song, you’d be wrong…sorta! The good news is it seems like Sword of the Demon Hunter will be completed, but the last two episodes have been delayed an extra week due to production issues. This announcement comes a few weeks after an incomplete version was streamed on HIDIVE, which then gets Justin wondering what is going on with this studio, and whether Frontier Works acquiring them will be a major boon for them.

27:36: The two hosts then discuss more anime getting delayed — first The Barbarian’s Bride, which was planned for this Fall season and has now been moved to April, and then Witch Hat Atelier, which has now been pushed to 2026. Both have major concerns but can only hope the delay does help; the two then briefly discuss Abrams Books and Abrams ComicArts now having their works distributed by Lunar instead of Diamond.

40:05: Both Justin and Helen send their condolences to the friends and family of Matt Haasch, who passed away last week after a battle with lymphoma. The founder of Star Fruit Books launched a GoFundMe early in September and it sounded like he was in relatively stable condition, enough to where he could still talk to people, so the sudden news was unexpected. At this moment the donation page is still up so if you can, the family can use whatever you can give moving forward.

Licenses

46:26: Cross Infinite World will being over more Do-Over Damsel titles, one of the fluffy variety and one of the bloody variety, while also announcing Ayakashi Moving Service; The Me and the Alien Mumu manga has been licensed by Kodama Tales, which definitely shocked Justin for sure; Shonen Jump and Shueisha’s MANGA Plus app now has Yohira Tokiwa’s Kurumizawa’s Folly on their services.

Streaming News

49:28: So we already knew the latest Jojo anime will be streaming on Netflix. But will it stream weekly or dropped all at once? We’ll find out soon enough; Nijiyon Animation 2, the short OVA based off the Love Live! Nijigasaki anime, is now on Crunchyroll; And more Tatsuki Fujimoto works will be adapted into anime, a number of one-shots done by different studios and talents that will stream on Amazon Prime Video. This gets both hosts wondering when Goodbye Eri will be adapted. (Fire Punch, however…)

Weird News

55:50: So the music duo GARNiDELiA is going on an indefinite hiatus. But as Helen and Justin go over the details, this is turning out to be a very weird situation, even after vocalist Mai “MARiA” Mizuhashi revealed she has not been paid wages by her agency.

59:02: The One-Punch Man S3 situation will be resolved for better or worse in a few weeks, as it’s planned to air in October. But since its announcement a couple years ago information had been hard to come by until earlier this month, where we finally got anime staff information. But many concerns about the production caused its director, Shinpei Nagai, to take to Twitter and explain what he could.

1:02:49: What is Naoki Urasawa up to nowadays? Would you believe a French luxury goods conglomerate is involved? Well they are; the A Misanthrope Teaches a Class for Demi-Humans LN is getting an anime, which would normally not be weird except this might be the first anime adaptation of a work by a VTuber.

1:06:29: Would you want to eat popcorn from Denji’s head? Well in a certain Japanese theater you will be able to eat popcorn out of Chainsaw Man’s head, which both hosts wonder if a theater will do this over in the States; Demon Slayer’s first Infinity Castle film has topped the box office this past weekend (since it’s opening weekend start at $33 million it has now reached $70 million), shattering the US record for an anime film in the US.

1:12:39: How would you feel if the President delivered a message at your World Championships? Well Yu-Gi-Oh! competitors got to experience this a few weeks ago actually at the Maison de la Mutualité in Paris, France; and a new script writer has now been attached to the My Hero Academia live-action film, which was announced in 2022. Justin wonders when we’ll next hear about this project.
