Show Notes

0:00: Justin and Helen explain what they’ve been up to over the past two weeks, which somehow manages to involve Fire Emblem — either admiring the memes from afar or actually playing it — and a couple J-Novel Club Original works!

News

18:57: The two hosts then discuss Crunchyroll finally announcing the launch of their Manga service, which begins next week, and if it can be different from their first iteration of Crunchyroll Manga.

25:28: More subscription updates are incoming for J-Novel Club subscribers, and it…looks pretty good actually?

32:05: More Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle news came out since the two hosts discussed it last episode, and that includes it continuing to make numbers that no animated Japanese film has ever made globally.

38:34: The Bootsleg manga will return after it was on hiatus since last year; two anime have been delayed — Young Ladies Don’t Play Fighting Games and Otherworldly Munchkin — and this once again gets the hosts wondering what is happening in the anime industry right now.

42:14: Two pretty notable VAs — Kensho Ono & Kana Hanakawa — recently announced that they have divorced; It was officially announced that the creator of Giséle Alain, Kasai Sui, passed away September 12.

Licenses

45:33: Seven Seas’ Wonderful Wednesdays has returned, and here’s how they kicked things off:

  • Maigo’s Printernia Nippon
  • Lemon, Toko Yamazaki, & sime’s Al the Adventurer: That Magic Shouldn’t Work! (LN and Manga)
  • Ninoko & Joyo Nishi’s I’m Fine With Being the Second Girlfriend (Ghost Ship)
  • Kuruma Hino & Butcha-U’s Space Orc: Barbarian Raider of the Stars, Aiming for the Queen! (Airship)

47:08: More Alphapolis LNs are being brought over by Hanashi Media, and that includes Shinogi Kazanami & Makai no Jūmin’s The New Gate: Where It Ends, It Begins and Kogitsune Kanekiru & Yamaada’s Re:Monster; Helen talks about a partnership involving WEBTOON and BOOM! Studios that will see several of BOOM!’s works being adapted into vertical-scroll webcomic editions.

49:13: Justin and Helen discuss a couple new TOKYOPOP titles that they finally got around to announcing at some point; Azumanga Daioh! is back, this time seeing a BD release for the first time in North America; More audiobooks will be coming from Yen Audio, and the Frieren novel getting one is not surprising at all.

Streaming News

52:31: After spending some time on REMOW’s services, Miru: Paths to My Future is now streaming on Crunchyroll; More Conan Cinema Saturday announcements have been made, which Justin has already watched; Justin went through many stages of grief regarding where the new Gintama spinoff anime would air, but long story short, it does not have to be watched on Azuki.

58:35: Let’s all decide to meet around here next year when Disney+/Hulu subscription prices go up, since this will be the third straight year they do this at this time. As Helen points out though, the timing could NOT be any worse for them; and A Star Brighter Than the Sun will be streaming on Prime Video, which might just mean less people being able to watch it.

Weird News

1:02:14: As the news somehow manages to get weirder and weirder every month, little did Justin know that by challenging the weird news gods that they would supply something weirder — the Department of Homeland Security posting a video of ICE officers detaining people to the backdrop of Pokémon qualifies as something weirder!

1:07:59: And if you thought politics and anime don’t mix, well what do you call One Piece’s Jolly Roger flag being used as part of protests in Nepal, the Philippines, and France? Helen explains a bit more about the situation, which involves Discord and election voting, somehow!

1:09:59: Ready to eat your favorite CLAMP characters as chocolates? Well the CLAMP x Godiva collaboration is gonna get going soon, so everyone’s gotta be prepared in Japan at least; Olympian Noah Lyles has kicked off a collection of merch you can only buy on Crunchyroll; and Demon Slayer — so popular it’s now an answer to a question for Jeopardy!.
