Show Notes
0:00: Justin and Helen (and a dog…?) once again discuss what they’ve been up to over the past few weeks, starting with Helen relieving her experience at the K-Pop Demon Hunters sing-a-long event in her area and catching up to Genshin before Justin goes over his (sort of) final summer anime season shows he’ll be keeping up with and talks about Collection 1 of Detective Conan.
News
20:29: The two then talk about politics! Specifically the one where the Japan Post has temporarily suspended package delivery to and from the US for packages exceeding $100 in value and consumer goods, citing recent legislation surrounding import tariffs. Let’s just say despite both hosts going over it, it can still be confusing as to know what’s affected and what’s not!
32:02: TheOASG wishes all the best to Mike McFarland, a long-time mainstay in the English anime dubbing industry, who was recently diagnosed with glioblastoma following brain tumor surgery.
34:55: Arata Yamaji’s Hoshi-kui Koroshi Egnaro manga has been cancelled due to various circumstances; Young King magazine revealed that creator Shohei Harumoto passed away last month; and Kadokawa’s Monthly Comic Dengeki Daioh magazine announced on their Twitter (X) account that manga creator Shino had died in June.
38:18: The two then discuss Apte Pro President, CEO and voice actor Takaya Hashi, who passed away last week due to an heart attack. The two discuss briefly his impact on the industry at large and the many condolences by fellow voice actors, creators and companies.
Licenses
40:07: There was only two not ANYC licenses that occurred in the past two weeks. One of them involved escaping the Netflix Streaming Complex (Devilman: Crybaby). The other…is a Naoki Urasawa title that has finally been licensed!
ANYC Thoughts and Licenses
48:24: Justin gives some thoughts about this year’s edition of Anime NYC, which had its highs (packed weekend, the 7 train running, good events) and lows (some panel room issues, panel line management oddities), but pulling off a 4-day convention is pretty tough but for LeftField Media’s first attempt, it didn’t seem too shabby. But it can be better next year.
The two then go over the many licenses made at the convention:

Streaming News
1:17:49: HIDIVE added the Queen Millennia anime to its service; Crunchyroll is now streaming Senpai is an Otokonoko Movie: Sunshine After the Rain film.
1:18:42: Naturally Justin had to discuss a bit more about the latest round of Conan Cinema Saturday films (while also calling out the questionable subs) before discussing REMOW’s latest streaming announcement on their services.
1:20:42: The rest of this section is All GKIDS, all time, starting with one more announcement from ANYC: Satoshi Kon’s Perfect Blue will be in theaters October 3 in 4K, which makes Helen happy since you’d figure GKIDS will release a home media version of it, but Justin meanwhile is not pleased (for extremely selfish reasons)!; another compilation film for Jujutsu Kaisen will be released in theaters this December; GKIDS will have All You Need is Kill screened at NYCC; 100 Meters will screen in theaters in October, with a special premiere in Los Angeles October 10.
1:24:00: Ok, one non-GKIDS related thing to cover — Mamoru Hosoda’s upcoming film, Scarlet, will not see a wide release in North American theaters this year, as it’s now delayed to early 2026.
Weird News
1:24:48: Justin and Helen wonder if Crunchyroll is finally feeling the effects of having so much anime to simulcast on their platform, as a number of their shows did not get uploaded on schedule, with some showing on the site a day later; and Crunchyroll will be exclusively streaming the Sekiro anime, which had a few people question if AI was used in the work thanks to the history of the company producing it — that led to the official Sekiro account stating AI was not used. Chances are very high this won’t be the only anime moving forward to be accused of this.
1:31:40: Justin was floored when he saw Fantagraphics “We were Robbed” sale a few weeks ago and it’s not immediately the first thing you think of when it says robbery; The Saiki K. creator had an interesting experience at a bookstore sometime ago, which then led his imagination to go to places after he discovered two women were looking a poster of the variant cover art that guests drew for the Dragon Ball 40th Anniversary Manga set.
1:36:47: Finally, VTubers really continue to evolve — see Ironmouse making the Rolling Stones Top 25 Most Influential Creator list and Suisei Hoshimachi having her face plastered all over the Forbes’ 30 for 30 magazine in Japan.
