Show Notes

0:00: The two Anti-Social Geniuses return to discuss everything they’ve been up to over the past few weeks! For Helen, that meant more Otakon and finding time to see how visually different S2 of My Dress-Up Darling is compared to S2. For Justin, this meant finally understanding the real meaning behind the raw chicken scene from The Summer Hikaru Died and sharing thoughts about a few more summer anime he’s tried.

News

25:37: Both hosts then delve into the situation with Kiba Walker, who has been accused of grooming and sending sexually suggestive messages to minors. This has led to a number of organizations — LGBTQ+ related — to drop Kiba from their roster. The latest company to do so was Ascendent Animation, who also had to clarify who was running the company.

30:14: Also weird news as this doesn’t happen often — an anime has been cancelled due to various circumstances. Justin and Helen both wonder what could’ve been the issue; Crunchyroll announced layoffs as part of their restructuring, and as part of their reorganization, they will build engineering hubs in a few places. The timing couldn’t have been more hilarious since the day before Channing Tatum was announced as a VA for the English dub of the first Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle film, which led to many people learning that Aniplex was the one who made this decision and not Crunchyroll.

36:31: Bill Flynn, known as the voice of Dr. Asaga from Funimation’s Case Closed dub, passed away early in July; Saint Seiya singer and former lead vocalist of MAKE-UP, Nobuo Yamada (NoB) passed away due to kidney cancer; and after unexpected complications during treatment, voice actress Tomo Sakurai passed away due to multiple organ cancer last week. Both hosts send condolences to the friends and family of the three.

49:13: More Otakon news: Manga Mavericks Books will have a few of their recent titles added to Azuki and release two new titles at some point this year and in print next year.

51:40: SuBLime naturally had to have announcements on Yaoi Day (8/1), and they will be bringing over Satomichi’s Bride of the Shark Clan and Enjō’s Forest of the Rabbits next year; Last Gasp licensed Suehiro Maruo’s manga adaptation of Edogawa Rampo’s short story The Caterpillar; meanwhile, Glacier Bay Books’ Kickstarter has launched, and the opportunity to own five unique titles might be worth looking into.

Streaming News

54:05: Both hosts wonder what the fate of Hulu will be now that it was announced that it will be fully integrated into Disney+; more One Piece films have been added to Crunchyroll’s service.

55:45: As Justin figured, TMS will bring over more Conan vs. Black Organization episodes of Detective Conan starting August 21, which pairs down what will be the next selection in…September or October?

58:18: One of the few shows that was not picked up by an official streaming service, Fermat’s Kitchen, is now available in North America thanks to REMOW; A whole bunch of Angel’s Egg will be seen at multiple theaters and soon enough, on HBO Max thanks to GKIDS.

1:01:48: Amazon Prime Video has added a Nintama Rantaro film to its service; you can now watch the Unico: Black Cloud and White Feathers pilot short on YouTube thanks to Tezuka Productions.

Weird News

1:02:56: So yes, it still is weird Channing Tatum of all people is now a VA in Demon Slayer, but for Crunchyroll, offering anime in-flight to Delta passengers might get very weird depending on what they choose (puts the 18+ anime on there); Manga creator-turned-politician Ken Akamatsu confirmed that he will not be appearing at the second day of Comiket 106, but it only invites more questions than answers for some reason.

1:06:43: CLAMP has been around so long, it makes perfect sense to partner with chocolate maker GODIVA; meanwhile, Teekyu has been around long enough to where they can do something stupid like put their entire catalog on one disc with the characters wearing underpants-shaped cap covers.

1:09:04: And finally, just when you thought you were done with Tai Chi Chasers, somehow, someway, it really kept going, somehow, in a possible direction no one could’ve predicted.
