The OASG Podcast

Show Notes

0:00: The two hosts of It’s Not My Fault TheOASG Podcast Isn’t Popular immediately (as in, take a while) get into what they’ve been up to over the past two weeks. It starts with Justin discussing watching Healin’ Good Precure and ends with Helen watching Great Pretender.

Pandemic News: Not too much this time, as shows are slowly coming back, but there are some cancellations still occurring in Japan.

News

8:30: Drops of God is actually going to end. This actually was something Justin didn’t think would happen.

10:10: Helen had to note that Shinzo Abe stepped down as Japanese PM due to health issues — and it happens right when a new volume of Harumi Suzumiya is going to come out! Helen begins making a connection…

11:45: Naoshi Arakawa’s Farewell, My Dear Cramer is going to get an anime TV show and film. Again, the Kodansha digital to print conversion is real!

13:37: Amimaru is a name that has certainly changed since its first iteration, and now they’ve been more or less an localization company for the past couple years. But it was soon discovered they are not paying the people working on manga all that well, and not allowing them to take credit for their work. This also led to statements from Manga Planet and futekiya, which suggests this is big news and worth discussing.

21:24: Justin and Helen discuss a major re-dubbing process that involves Sentai removing Krystal LaPorte’s voice from Beyond the Boundary for reasons that…apparently were enough to spend the money to redub her voice! And goes deep into the well, like as far back as 2016.

Licenses

26:03: As mentioned earlier, there’s going to be a new volume of Haruhi, and that’s gonna get simulpubbed by Yen Press too! And also come out in print. AND they will be reprinting Haruhi under their Yen On imprint. They also announced before Virtual Crunchyroll Expo they licensed ID: Invaded #Brake-Broken.

29:45: VIZ announced they’ve licensed Assassin’s Creed: Blade of Shao Jun; TOKYOPOP picked up a few BL titles: This Wonderful Season, Katakoi Lamp, The Treasure of the King and the Cat; and MANGA Plus added a few titles to their service — Hokkaido Gals Are Super Adorable! & Excuse me dentist, it’s touching me!

31:45: Glacier Bay Books has licensed Imai Arata’s F manga, which is super indie stuff; SuBLime will be bringing over ‘Bad Boys, Happy Home; and Star Fruit Books licensed an anthology, Monthly Shoujo Sunday.

33:33: aNCHOR had one of the weirdest releases — they published Muv-Luv Alternative digitally August 28. They announced it was coming out that day on Monday of that week. It’s available digitally on Kindle and Kobo and…Gumroad. Yes, Gumroad. They allowed people to get high quality images of the first chapter on imgur...and they’re SUPER huge. As Justin notes, just strange.

38:19: Seven Seas once again announced some stuff on Twitter:

  • Superwomen in Love!
  • Magical Angel Creamy Mami (modern continuation)
  • The Tale of the Outcasts (Shonen Sunday!!!)
  • Bite Maker (Which is an omegaverse! And gets Helen to talk about the lore and mention an over hour long video of it)
  • Shut-In Elf
  • Sadako-san and Sadako-chan
  • Light novel/manga of Drugstore in Another World: The Slow Life of a Cheat Pharmacist
  • I Have a Secret
  • Wondercat Kyuu-chan
  • School Zone

43:15: Bartender is gonna get a US release! Moribito is getting released again! And at their very quiet Sentai at Home convention, they announced they’ve licensed Danmachi III, the Twittering Birds Fly Home films, BanG Dream! FILM LIVE & Locke the Superman for eventual home releases!

Crunchroll Expo Thoughts and Licenses

46:20: Justin and Helen discuss V-CRX. Well for Justin at least, he starts explaining how this convention ended up reminding him of what we’re all missing out since we can’t go to physical conventions. Helen goes over some of things that just didn’t seem to work for V-CRX.

54:00: If you thought the weirdest anime news of 2020 was finished, you’d be wrong! As Right Stuf is releasing Interspecies Reviewers on BD next year, note that they had to revive their Critical Mass Video label in order to release this…which is their hentai label.

58:44: Crunchyroll and Sentai Filmworks are partnering up once again! Pretty sure seeing Bookworm getting a home video release is good.

1:00:10: Here’s Yen Press’ announcements at the convention:

  • Do You Like the Nerdy Nurse? – will be an omnibus release
  • Love and Heart
  • Days on Fes
  • The Girl Without a Face
  • I Can’t Reach You
  • Virgin Road (Yen On)
  • Play It Cool, Guys
  • Penguin Gentleman
  • Date A Live (Yen On)

1:03:28: Mangamo had some new additions — DEATHDEUS: Hero of The Dead, My Evil Stepbrother, Erementar Gerade and its sequel Flag of Blue Sky — and noted that they’re hoping to have the service available worldwide before the year is up; VIZ will be releasing the VIZBIG editions of Inuyasha digitally this winter.

1:05:40: GKIDS is going to dub The Night is Short, Walk on Girl, while Crunchyroll and Adult Swim are teaming up to produce a Shenmue anime.

Streaming News

1:09:30: As you know Healin’ Good Precure is now streaming on Crunchyroll — so is Kira Kira Precure A La Mode! The Oresuki OVAs are now streaming on Crunchyroll, HIDIVE, and Funimation. Funimation and Aniplex’s relationship continues, as now the following anime are now on the service:

  • Persona 4 the Golden Animation
  • anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day
  • High School Fleet
  • Our love has always been 10 centimeters apart.
  • Servant × Service

And finally, Retrocrush added or is adding the following titles to their service this month:

  • Haruka Nogizaka’s Secret & Haruka Nogizaka’s Secret: Purezza
  • Metal Skin Panic MADOX-01 – September 11
  • Kite: International Version – September 11
  • Kobato. – September 18
  • Lupin III: Part II – September 25
Weird News

1:11:15: Not quite done with Retrocrush just yet. They made a mistake regarding how they handled Pastel Yumi, and it is indeed not a good look. Justin and Helen discuss how bizarre this was where they took a fansub and tried to pass it off as official…and what happened after that.

1:14:01: Vic is back!…and at a convention!…in Florida! And he said some stuff that didn’t really make a lot of sense about COVID-19 and a Funko pop…which Funko themselves said they’re not actually doing.

1:16:11: Finally, Helen talks about a V-Tuber retiring two weeks after her debut…which, as you can probably guess, is not a good thing.
