The OASG Podcast

Show Notes

0:00: Justin and Helen discuss everything they’ve been up to over the past few weeks. Helen of course went to Katsucon (and had some fun with her panel), but also made time to see Masaaki Yuasa’s latest film, Ride Your Wave.

Meanwhile Justin got consumed once again with Fire Emblem (as the Cindered Shadows DLC dropped) and read and watched Astra: Lost in Space. Thankfully he spoils nothing of either.

News

17:36: Crunchyroll “officially” launched Crunchyroll Originals, featuring a mix of titles, and that includes some manhwa. Justin and Helen dig into this news.

23:11: Netflix is partnering up with a couple of Japanese creators (From CLAMP to Tow Ubukata) to create some anime projects. Helen already has a good idea about where Mari Yamazaki’s next project might go.

25:46: TOKYOPOP had some things to launch over at ICv2, and both hosts, as always when it comes to TOKYOPOP, are skeptical.

28:58: So TCAF is going to bring over Witch Hat Atelier creator Kamome Shirahama this year. Listen to find out how Helen and (specifically) Justin melted down where they were at.

34:45: Apparently Hulu and Shueisha’s Margaret magazine are going to team up for live-action works? That’s a good thing, except will this also stream in the US?

36:52: As Justin was at Anime NYC this past year, he should’ve known By the Grace of the Gods was getting an anime since two companies licensed the LN and manga. And boom.

Streaming news

53:01: Funimation added some more titles from Aniplex and Nozomi to their service.

55:26: That Netflix 4K anime we heard about? It’s airing March 23!…Neither Justin or Helen are prepared to watch it. For 4K reasons.

56:07: HIDIVE added Nagasarete Airantou & We Rent Tsukumogami to its service.

56:49: Finally, Crunchyroll added Marmalade Boy to its service, which leads Helen to wonder why in the world this anime is popular.

Weird news

59:37: Collaborations continue to be amusing and just…well, something else since real estate and Reincarnated as a Slime is now a thing.

1:00:31: Sonic did it. Sonic made some fat cash in the box office. I.e. Justin especially is taking a big fat L.

1:01:40: The Island of Giant Insects is getting a Kickstarter to have an English dub and be a final edition of the series. At the time we recorded this, it was at $16,478. It’s now at $17,208 as of today.

…It needs $78,014 to be fully funded. The hosts are NOT liking its chances of getting funded.

1:05:58: And finally…if you thought Interspecies Reviewers was done getting dropped from TV stations, oh sweet summer child, you were so wrong.

(Of course, in the next two weeks the two hosts will be talking about what happened to this series after we recorded this episode Tuesday!)
