The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated Volume 2

Sometimes, there are situations where it’s fine to gloat and be proud of your accomplishments. Other times, facing the reality of your situation will only help, not hurt your cause. For Jahy, who lost her powers after the Magical Girl destroyed the Dark Realm, you’d think she’d learn some humility, but nope, her power and ego were too strong back then, and now in the human realm her personality doesn’t change despite her weakened powers. After the events of volume 1 however, you’d expect she’d be humbled to the point where she would seek some help or build on her new success.

She instead lords her big new mana crystal like it’s the greatest thing ever…to her detriment!

Volume 2 of The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated! continues mixing Wakame Konbu’s impressive art with more of Jahy faceplanting after any or all success. A smart person who understands their limits would know to ask for some help or wise up. Jahy instead wants her ego stroked so she meets up with Druj to lord over getting a big mana crystal. She ends up reiterating this essentially with her boss at work. Both end up backfiring hilariously! Druj actually has a solid amount of manga crystals which forces Jahy to lie about, well, how she got her own crystal and how much she has. Her boss ends up using Jahy’s bragging about her crystal to get her to clean up the restaurant.

Yep, she’s got a long, long ways to go from reviving the Dark Realm.

While we do continue to see Jahy struggle to live — heck even at one point she gets a cold, which makes her own up to reality, even if temporarily — a new character arrives in Saurva. Another demon who had to abandon their plans thanks to the destruction of the Dark Realm, Saurva has always wanted to overtake Jahy as the No. 2 back then. The problem was Jahy was stronger than her, and Saurva also has two deadly combos against her — bad luck and silliness. Despite Jahy’s weakened state, she can’t take advantage because her believing Jahy is still strong affects every word or moment. Like when Jahy’s talking/threatening a dog, no Saurva, she’s not talking to you! The idea to ruin Jahy’s personal life by transforming as her is a good idea…just don’t pay the landlady! (Which Saurva does, meaning the real Jahy gets away with free rent!)

Simply put, the Dark Realm just has some characters that need more awareness. For entertainment purposes though, it’s totally fine for them to lack all of the awareness as I laugh at their escapades. Well, after Jahy gets rid of this cold, maybe she’ll resume her goal to revive the Dark Realm and defeat the Magical Girl! Let’s just hope she doesn’t randomly find her apartment and look prepared to end Jahy forever. We can all agree she’d be in massive trouble if so!
