For most long running series, the one-trick idea can work over a long period of time. Sleepy Princess in Demon Castle’s one trick is one of them. But even on occasion, a shake up isn’t too bad as long as it makes sense. Like if I told you that most of this volume was spent with none of Syalis’ sleep antics happening within the demon castle, you’d be like, that makes no sense whatsoever!

Instead, they happen outside the demon castle, which, by the way, is in need of repair due to…laziness.

For various reasons, all the demons start taking things for granted and slack on their usual duties — duties that ultimately make the whole castle run smoothly. They paid for it when the castle has now tilted at an unnatural angle, and now no one can live the castle. They try to build their own mini castle before plotting how to fix things, only for their shoddy work to be exposed when it breaks down. All hope for these demons seems lost…which is when Syalis and her DIY nature ends up warming the demons’ heart! Her skills end up being so valued that when she collapses due to hunger, they all rally to make some tasty curry. Little did they realize that by placating Syalis, she would be the one to remake the demon castle. And it’s on track to be very cute.

Gonna have to mark out the demon part huh?

From Alraune falling prey to Syalis’ escapades to two brothers also showing how much she’s been influencing everything, the demons stand little chance in containing their hostage. Do they even realize she is a hostage? Well, there’s one chapter later in the volume where she even roams around as Demon King Twilight faces off against the heroes — like she could go to them right now! But as we know, Syalis has far more freedom away from her own home, and most importantly, she gets to avoid seeing “Daw” ever again.

We still get some more jokes that reference other works (good old’ Roundabout Jojo joke in there), and we still find ourselves learning more about some of the demons. It’s just as usual, we learn about them in the most ridiculous situations (see: Syalis, Agave, and Sand Dragon desperately trying to see Fire Venom Dragon’s face). Funny that Bussy ended up getting the praise of one legendary grimoire, which only makes Syalis wonder what happened to his anti-demon stance!

But wait, what about the sleep tips? Her terrorizing the demons? Oh don’t worry that’s still there, but it might just involve a demon. Or more. Maybe the entire demon castle residents are gonna get a good night’s sleep on a makeshift bed. And we will still be laughing at how they react to it, either from how they look or their expressions when she does something wrong. This also includes Syalis’ looks too!
