One Week Friends Volume 2

Making friends is not always easy. For Yuuki, trying to make friends with Kaori is doubly difficult since she forgets what friends she even makes every week. However, after some trial and error they find a way to overcome it, and with the goal of getting her to remember the friends she makes each week being set, the two find a way — alongside Yuuki’s friend Shougo — to make it work out.

However, Shougo being on Kaori’s mind and saying his name a lot is bothering Yuuki. In fact, it gets to the point where he gets upset and lets her know it. They then get into an argument, which they both later on regret a lot. For Yuuki however, he plans on making it up to her immediately. For Kaori, she…she doesn’t even know who Yuuki is. Legitimately, as she managed to lose her diary that she writes in to make her remember these things on the day they argued, and her poster on when to write in the diary fell off her door. So she knows nothing about Yuuki, which means he’s got a brand new challenge that’s gonna involve going out of his element.

I liked One Week Friends volume 2 a lot. The big thing that is a draw is the moments of humor, but in this volume, it compliments the main situation. Now that Kaori’s lost her diary, Yuuki only has Shougo and some steely determination for her to remember his existence. And while it tosses in some comedy, the relationship between the two now faces significant issues, and how they overcome it was pretty sweet.

In addition to keeping it relationship-focused, the volume also brings in Kaori’s mom and a new character, Saki Yamagishi, into the manga for good measure. With Kaori’s mom, this does two things: it explains how Kaori’s past still sticks with her and how she can move forward down the road. With Saki, who’s apparently forgetful in general but wants to be friends with Kaori, this is a good change of pace. All of these are challenges that aren’t going to be solved immediately. But the development and pacing between these two situations are quite quaint, and only makes me wish it was answered quickly.

However, it’s definitely not. Between them still hanging around in school and such, who knows what volume it’ll be before everything comes to a head. Until then, with the focus of volume 2 revolving around Yuuki and Kaori, this was a super pleasant read. Combine that with all the adorable character designs and emotions shown, and I can only continue to look forward to what’s going to happen in the manga next.
