High School Prodigies Have It Easy Even in Another World! Volume 1

What would happen if you brought together the most unlikely high school prodigies and sent them into another world?

Well, you’d likely get one with low stakes, which this manga might set up to be — that’s why the actual skills of each better be pretty unrealistic to make it work!

High School Prodigies Have it Easy Even in Another World! is, so far at least, a fantasy that’s not so different from most isekai of its ilk. The gimmick of course is rather than just one person being sent to another world, we have seven in this one. And rather than just be extraordinary at a normal skill — we have “The World’s Greatest” inventor, doctor, and businessman — we also have a swordmaster, a magician, a prime minister, and a journalist who’s descended from a ninja line that are all apparently high schoolers.

Believe it or not, the most incredulous thing about this is not any of these talents — it’s the fact that they are all around the same area in Japan and know each other. Like, you talk about how unlikely they are able to have these types of skills, but to then manage to know each other? Totally unrealistic. It’s like either the creator or editor decided to come up with the most outlandish gifts for these characters, make sure they all know each other, and put that idea into words.

And well, it is in words. The manga that Yen Press licensed is based on a light novel in Japan (if the long title of course didn’t imply it), and that’s been running since 2015. For now we will have to make do with the manga, and also make do with these seven being together. And also make do with these seven winding up in the fantasy world of Freyjagard after their plane crashed…mysteriously.

When they eventually wake up and recover, they decide they have to repay the village back, and continue to help out the ones who saved them — Lyrule and Winona, two Byuma living in a pretty poor village. How poor? With crop issues and also an awful trading partner, they’re worried about surviving the winter, much less anything else.

With seven characters with unique gifts, there’s a good chance the upcoming volumes will have an arc involving all of them. And despite some worldbuilding quibbles, this manga was pretty fun and has some entertaining qualities so I’m likely to keep checking out future volumes. So I’ll mostly speak on the two who dominated this arc, the Prime Minister Tsukasa Mikogami and Businessman Masato Sanada. Both are world-class in their talents, and that’s on display fairly quickly. As the first one up, Tsukasa goes over where he’s at, the health of his friends, does this despite still recovering from his injuries, and even explains his backstory to Lyrule. Later on in the volume, Masato manages to show his business skills by creating a trading company with zero cash on him, and running it to near perfection.

Guess this is very easy with prodigies huh?

I don’t think anyone should expect anything too serious in this one. If you did want to read something serious, this isn’t it for sure. But the business arc was pretty fun, the artwork is passable (though extremely horny when it gets a chance to with its fantasy girls so far), and there are some questions I’d like to get answers to. For starters, did they really survive the crash? They’ve been told of a vague Seven Heroes story by Lyrule, but were they really summoned to Freyjagard? They have to figure that out soon. I’m looking forward to finding out, and what other crazy things these geniuses at their craft can do.
