The OASG Podcast

Show Notes

0:00: Justin and Helen quickly go over the fact that they had a Thanksgiving (from food to driving back home for one…or both of these hosts), then share what they’ve been up to. For Justin, that means reading and watching Ascendance of a Bookworm. Meanwhile Helen’s been watching His Dark Materials, which manages to reveal Justin’s curious reading (or not reading) habits growing up.

News

8:27: Marvel and Tsuburuya Productions are collaborating to create Ultraman comics and graphic novels! Whether it’ll be successful, as Helen wonders, will be up for debate though.

9:49: Manga Planet has launched! They only have a few titles up right now, which makes both hosts wonder about the viability of the service. They also wonder if it’ll take futekiya’s path though.

13:27: Irodori Comics is launching a non-erotic doujinshi label, IRODORI AQUA, which will feature titles Justin is definitely interested in…and won’t have time to read until 2020 at this rate!

17:08: Takehiko Inoue’s REAL is gonna resume in Shueisha’s Weekly Young Jump, but one interesting tidbit is there’s gonna be digital editions of this released in Japan starting in February. This…this could be a big deal for other Inoue works!

18:54: Justin and Helen give their thoughts on a manga retelling the account of an Uighur woman in China and the atrocities she and her family (and others) have faced.

21:54: Silver Spoon has finally ended in Japan. Justin and Helen quickly hope Arakawa takes some time to recharge before jumping into her new work.

23:05: Finally…after this aired eons ago (Summer 2019), Teasing Master Takagi-san S2 is going to air on Netflix today!

24:08: Promare’s so popular it’s gonna get a 4DX screening December 11…which interests both hosts, but various complications (it needing to be in theaters in their area, work) may stop them from seeing it.

Licenses

26:48: As expected, Sentai has licensed Chihayafuru. Meanwhile Seven Seas licensed a manga where the male lead appears to remind Justin of Sylvain from Fire Emblem: Three Houses. And also has monster girls, a Seven Seas staple. And finally, Vertical’s releasing the manga adaptation of Makoto Shinkai’s Weathering With You.

Streaming News

30:32: Funimation and Aniplex are back to being a thing! A good amount of Aniplex titles are now streaming on Funimation, but the return of FMA: Brotherhood and Black Butler just goes to show how streaming rights can change in a hurry.

Weird News

33:48: From Lupin III airing a special cameo, both Justin and Helen learned a lot. Like Edward Snowden being an anime fan. And also selling anime art way back in the day. And other bizarre stories.
