Pandemic News

0:00: Another podcast episode where both Justin and Helen have MUCH to talk about so no what’s they’ve been up to over the past two weeks!

Instead, they continue brief updates on the ongoing pandemic, which saw Youmacon move straight to online only as the main con has been postponed to next year, and Kingdom Season 3 returning from its Spring 2020 delay in…Spring 2021.

News

2:20: Ryosuke Takeuchi & Hikaru Miyoshi’s Moriarty the Patriot is now in the SJ Vault; Shigeru Mizuki manga is becoming available digitallyOnward Towards Our Noble Deaths, Hitler, Nonnonba (which got moved to October 28) and Kitaro are out now; and Yen Press has revealed their plans for how they’re handling Haruhi Suzumiya’s return. This part reminds Helen, because of how old Suzumiya is, of how they handled one of their earliest LNs. Also, MANGA Plus added Akira Amano’s new series Ron Kamonohashi: Deranged Detective to their service.

5:50: Izumi Matsumoto passed away earlier this month, and was revealed last week by Wave Studio. Known as the creator of Kimagure Orange Road, he’s had numerous ailments over the past couple years, and Justin and Helen briefly comment on his passing.

Licenses

6:46: VIZ…VIZ had a big announcement. Here’s what they announced prior to said big announcement:

  • Hajime Komoto’s Mashle
  • Yoshifumi Tozuka’s Undead Unluck
  • Hirokazu Hikawa’s Kirby Manga Mania
  • Nozomi Mino’s Yakuza Lover
  • Taiyo Matsumoto’s No. 5

And then, well, they did this:

Yep, Buronson & Tetsuo Hara’s Fist of the North Star is now actually coming back in English! Helen and Justin talk about this news, including wondering if VIZ will be using the eOneBook localization for it.

12:26: Yen Press also had some announcements…ok, they had a lot of announcements actually! They even had to announce a few before their panel at NYCC Metaverse:

  • A deluxe limited edition box set of Sword Art Online (Platinum Collector’s Edition)
  • Kumo Kagyu, Aoki Shogo, & lack’s Goblin Slayer Side Story II: Dai Katana manga
  • Chisaki Kanai’s When a Magician’s Pupil Smiles (former digital first title)
  • Light novel and manga version of Kisetsu Morita’s I Was a Bottom-Tier Bureaucrat for 1,500 Years, and the Demon King Made Me a Minister (spinoff to Killing Slimes series)

And here’s what they did announce at the panel:

  • Yuba Isukari & Tatsuyuki Tanaka’s Yokahama Station SF
  • Ryohgo Narita & Suzuhito Yasuda’s Durarara!! SH
  • Kennoji & KWKM’s Hazure Skill: From Legendary Assassin to Anonymous Guild Member

  • Ryotaro Ueda’s Hana-chan and the Shape of the World
  • Yuumikan’s BOFURI: I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, so I’ll Max Out My Defense

Of course the two hosts talk about the last title they announced, and how Yen Press announced it (the points had to go somewhere!)

17:01: Vertical will be bringing over NISIOISIN & Suzuka Oda’s Pretty Boy Detective Club manga; they will also complete the Monogatari Box Set with the Final Season planned for Summer 2021.

18:33: Kodansha Comics is going to be releasing a new paperback edition of Sailor Moon next year, and Justin wonders if April 2021 will just be Sailor Moon month since if the schedules stay firm there will be three Sailor Moon manga coming out in April (First two volumes of Codename Sailor V Eternal Edition are also planned for April, but it might not stay that way)

19:48: J-Novel Club held a Twitch stream and announced the following five titles:

  • Gamei Hitsuji & Saika Fushimi’s The Magician Who Rose From Failure: Tales of War and Magic
  • Broccoli Lion & sime’s The Great Cleric: White-Collar Survival in Another World (Which Helen just reviewed the manga version of it)
  • Toma Shinozaki & SenriGAN’s Dungeon Busters
  • Nayo & Shio Sakura’s Girls Kingdom
  • Oriori Siki & Azuri Hyuuga’s Our Crappy Social Game Club Is Gonna Make the Most Epic Game

21:36: Cross Infinite World announced the final two titles they’ve licensed:

  • Iota AIUE & Kuroyuki’s light novel As The Villainess, I Reject These Happy-Bad Endings!
  • Chii Kurusu and Minato Yaguchi’s I Reincarnated As Evil Alice, So the Only Thing I’m Courting Is Death!

Helen begins wondering if the reincarnated into a villainess thing is starting to become too much at this point.

22:56: Sentai announced they’ve licensed the Blade of the Immortal anime; And yes, Aniplex still is around, as Your Lie in April and Lord El-Melloi II’s Case Files: Rail Zeppelin Grace note is getting released by them.

Streaming News

24:10: Netflix is exclusively streaming next year’s Godzilla anime, and Justin and Helen are a bit intrigued by who’s working on it.

25:21: The Oishinbo anime is now streaming on YouTube, which is interesting since it seems the JP publisher is uploading them.

26:09: Assault Lily Bouquet, which was delayed due to COVID-19, is now airing on Fridays instead of Thursdays…which makes the two hosts wonder what is happening production wise.

Fall Anime 2020 Season Thoughts!

27:23: The two hosts talk a while about the Fall anime they’re watching…which is a lot. With a Dog AND a Cat, Every Day is Fun has so far been Justin’s best short of the season; DOGEZA: I tried asking while Kowtowing normally would be the weirdest “why is Crunchyroll streaming this anime” of the season…maybe it will be in the end. But for Justin, how CR could be streaming Anime KAPIBARASAN for two weeks and not realize it is broken is the weirdest “why is CR streaming broken episodes of this anime” this season. So yes, Justin rants about that.

The two hosts eventually talk about other anime, like Golden Kamuy S3 & Haikyu!!’s second half of its 4th season; new anime like Jujutsu Kaisen & Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle (which Justin will forever tell you is amazing); discuss a bit about the discussion about Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina (1:05:32), which actually makes sense since the two hosts reviewed the first volume of the series; and even talk about anime they want to get to but couldn’t for various reasons.

Weird News

1:22:10: Mamoru Oshii is “God” in a live-action romance film…ok, maybe not an actual god, but Justin and Helen discuss his role anyways.

1:23:00: Finally, Helen had to talk about Justin seeing Genshin Impact just taking over a train.
