The OASG Podcast

Show Notes

0:00: Justin and Helen again spend some time to chat about a lot of things over the internet. For Justin though, he talks about officially ending the Winter Anime 2020 season since he didn’t realize Ace of Diamond act II actually was ending.

COVID-19 news

9:05: With the pandemic continuing to affect everyone and everything at every level, a number of shows this spring season are getting postponed. The list of shows is large, and now it’s enough where there are roundups of what’s been delayed. The two wonder why Japan’s response was so slow to this, while Justin theorized that the affects of these delays will affect even more than just the summer season. (And the effects were officially known this week, when S2 of The Promised Neverland has been pushed to Winter 2021, as an example.)

News

23:08: In an interesting note, How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom is getting an anime. Noteworthy because overseas sales was a major factor in it getting an anime.

25:07: Paranoia Agent is gonna air tomorrow on Adult Swim’s Toonami block, and this is for sure gonna be something Justin makes time for.

26:14: In case you didn’t know…Mangamo launched! Justin and Helen talk briefly about this new service.

Licensing News

32:37: J-Novel Club did their Twitch stream where they announced three light novels (Deathbound Duke’s Daughter, Wild Times with a Fake Fake Princess, A Wild Last Boss Appeared) one manga (Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill), and some print announcements (Bookworm manga, I Shall Survive Using Potions manga and LN, By the Grace of the Gods LN)

36:27: Manga Planet is adding a couple titles that are on Crunchyroll to their service:

  • The Kawai Complex Guide to Manors and Hostel Behavior
  • SoreMachi: And Yet the Town Moves
  • Spirit Circle
  • Sun-Ken Rock

38:14: Finally, here’s a license where Justin had to go back to 2011 or something to remember companies having specific rights to a manga: Loveless, which VIZ has had for years, is now going to be released by Kodansha Comics April 28.

Also this is close enough to ruin Justin’s theory that Under Ninja, which was supposed to come out this month, is likely going to be published by Kodansha. At least he said there was a 60% chance. Which in Fire Emblem terms–

Spring Anime 2020 Discussion!

42:52: While the Spring Season is very much a question mark, the two hosts discuss what they have watched from the season, from an anime that adapts a manga that started in Business Jump in 1997, to an anime that focuses on the 8th Son, and to an anime about a mangaka hiding his ecchi manga from his young daughter.

Oh, and of course the two hosts talk about the best anime of the season, Bakarina My Next Life as a Villainess! and a few other shows (like Bookworm S2 and Food Wars S5)

Weird News

1:28:29: From an April Fools joke to real! Yuruyuri meets That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, and this makes one of the hosts wonder what other works had this happen to them.

1:29:32: Maaya Uchida plays the main lead Katarina in Bakarina. But she also plays 5 other versions of Katarina in the anime, and she’s credited for all of them! Which makes Helen wonder if that counts as additional pay…
