The OASG PodcastShow Notes

0:00: Justin and Helen chat about what they’ve been up to, which for one, it involves Katsucon and a car getting towed. For the other, it was preparation for Black Panther. (NOTE: Justin watched Creed and then Black Panther since the recording of this podcast. Black Panther was great.)

7:36: FUNimation and Crunchyroll made some announcements regarding stuff coming out on home video. Tsukigakirei and Re:ZERO highlight what they’re mostly excited about.

9:06: Crunchyroll announced that essentially all of Kodansha’s catalog they have on their manga service (excluding Fairy Tail, which will get an additional 30 volumes) will be moved to eBook format or will be simulpub only. We get into why this is an issue.

16:19: Meanwhile Crunchyroll’s anime catalog keeps rolling along. They’ve added a couple of titles, though the only ones Justin and Helen were interested in was Escaflowne, Space Dandy, and Garden of Sinners.

21:50: They are also providing the anime industry with a LOT of money. Justin and Helen do wonder how that money’s being distributed though.

25:19: Anyways, more anime talk! Goblin Slayer and Danmachi S2 was announced at an event in Japan. Justin basically hopes White Fox adapts the LN parts of Goblin Slayer (no, not Goblin Knight btw) and is actually respectful, and well, with Danmachi S2 coming, he’s gotta go watch the spin-off…

28:38: Aniplex Japan’s investing a minority share in Madman, an Australian distribution company. Helen worries what this means for them.

30:50: Mamoru Hosoda’s back…and he’s back really fast as GKids has licensed it. It’s also been licensed by a bunch of other distributors around the world. (also yes, just Lu Over the Wall btw)

34:03: Battle Angel Alita is being pushed back. It was set to come out in July. It’s now coming December 21. UM….

35:45: Aya Hisakawa’s been tapped to replace Hiromi Tsuru as Bulma. Justin and Helen get into that.

37:26: Helen’s really excited about the Sailor Moon musical coming to the US. Justin can only show his indifference.

39:38: Helen and Justin talk about Comic Days, which is something Kodansha Japan’s working on. Krystallina ended up checking it out this week in her weekly column.

41:32: TOKYOPOP won’t go away!

45:27: Japan’s aiming to extend copyright until 70 years after the author’s death. Justin can only sit in silence as Helen explains what’s actually happening.

48:20: If you’ve been following the Olympics, you may have heard about Yuri on Ice trending on Twitter. Here’s the reason why.

51:23: Finally…we get into what is an early contender for weirdest news of 2018: An author paid to promote this light novel on Twitter:

This cover apparently violated Twitter’s rules and was banned for “advertising adult content or services.” Justin and Helen are flabbergasted at that, but if you thought that’s why it’s weird news, let’s just say it ends with the author storming the Twitter Japan offices.

55:57: CORRECTION — Thanks Flammie80 for pointing out a mistake we made on Episode 46 of TheOASG podcast — it was Sanzigen that’s worked on BBK/BRNK.
