It's Not My Fault TheOASG Podcast is Not Popular!

Show Notes

0:00: Justin and Helen chat about what they’ve been up to over the past few weeks, from Healin’ Good Precure to Fuuto Pi to A Herbivorous Dragon of 5,000 Years Gets Unfairly Villainized to more Fire Emblem Three Hopes (for Justin!).

[Justin even gives a hot take regarding his favorite Fire Emblem game, Three Houses!]

Pandemic News

19:21: Shine Post is currently airing now by Studio KAI, but there’s an outbreak within the studio, and that means the schedule is all up in flux.

23:40: We also have a few more VAs catching COVID-19, so add them to the list as well.

News

24:31: So yes, Vic Mignogna tried to appeal the initial ruling back in 2019. He lost. The consequences of that might actually be worse this time!

28:06: Anime studios have dealt with many issues for years, and with Teikoku Databank releasing numbers on studios being in the red, maybe none of us should be shocked.

33:50: Longtime VA for Jigen in Lupin the 3rd, Kiyoshi Kobayashi, passed away at 89 July 30 due to pneumonia.

Licenses

35:12: The best part of the podcast this week started with nothing! There was no new licenses in the original script until Justin figured TOKYOPOP probably had some new stuff but as is typical, they didn’t say anything. And yes, they did:

  • Masaomi Ito’s Confessions of a Shy Baker (Love x Love)
  • Saki Tsukahara’s The Flower That Seems to Truly Dance (Love x Love)
  • Takatsu’s Welcome Back, Aureole (Love x Love)
  • Tomo Serizawa’s Snow Fairy (Love x Love)

but it was at the 35:51 mark where Helen failed to see Satoshi Mizukami’s Sengoku Youko on there so she was S T U N N E D and well, things escalated from there!

Streaming News

39:10: Goodbye, Don Glees! will premiere in theaters September 14 & 20 subbed, September 18 dubbed; Gundam: The Witch From Mercury prologue will stream outside Japan on gundam info YT channel September 1; HIDIVE is now streaming the Revue Starlight film; Netflix will be streaming Cyberpunk: Edgerunners September 13.

Weird News

42:19: Helen and Justin argue about the newest Dragon Ball Super film being weird news or regular news (But maybe the two will figure out where it lands next episode!) before talking about Teppen—!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! which not only might get a special episode, but episode 2 will actually air this time!

45:00: It seemed amusing at the time when Yoshihiro Togashi got a Twitter account, but now recent updates suggest his health while drawing Hunter x Hunter is not going well, and the two hosts are pretty sure he needs to make a choice that doesn’t hurt his health.

47:21: French Dub Voice Actress Anna Lauzeray-Gishi was let go by Crunchyroll and no longer will play a character from Classroom of the Elite due to her involvement in the Chainsaw Man fan dub trailer. The two hosts discuss what’s mostly unknown territory of a current VA taking art in a fandub for an anime that’s not out yet.

52:38: Mayumi Tanaka wants Luffy to be her final role, and if it all works out that way, that’d be pretty cool.

53:41: Someone out there’s gonna spend $1,500 on a 4-foot tall Guts statue, and Justin will only cry in pain; meanwhile Usamaru Furuya’s son already looks like he’ll be great, but he’s only in 6th Grade. Kid’s gonna grow up to dominate the industry at this rate!

55:34: And in final bit of news, Zion Williamson is obviously into anime as we all know, but in an interview with GQ, he says he believes around 80% of the NBA like anime but they won’t admit it. This gets the two hosts to speculate on whether other sports leagues also have players who like anime but won’t admit it.
