Summer Anime 2022: First Impressions Part 2

0:00: After an introduction Justin and Helen dive right into more summer anime season talk! Justin talks about a few of the shows he dropped (coughcoughisekailifecough) while Helen gives her thoughts on the return of Devil is a Part-Timer!. More anime, such as seasons 2 of Love Live! Superstar!! and Shadows House are also mentioned, and one of the hosts also starts shilling for a manzai anime.

Pandemic News

25:50: A couple of voice actors have tested positive for COVID-19, and even members of a band caught COVID-19. Looks like things are rising all over.

News

27:20: We got news of a magazine shutting down and going digital only…and possibly Witch Hat Atelier being simulpubbed???

29:04: The Eisners finally inducted Moto Hagio into their Hall of Fame…long overdue! Helen meanwhile has a bone to pick with the choice of Junji Ito for Best Manga this year.

Licenses

31:41: Not too many announcements at SDCC that was manga related, but there were a few, ranging from Kodansha’s Spring 2023 titles and their August digital debut output — which only has two new releases!

35:43: Udon had a couple announcements as well at the convention: Keiji Asakawa’s Robotics;Notes and Ryu Mizuno & Atsushi Suzumi’s Record of the Lodoss War: The Crown of the Covenant.

And some sort of news on Sugar Sugar Rune!

37:04: Justin realizes there was bit of news that he forgot to mention: Heart Gear is set to return after an over 2-year hiatus.

37:27: Square Enix Manga & Books announced two new manga for Spring 2023 — Hiromu Arakawa’s Daemons of the Shadow Realm and Taku Kawamura’s My Clueless First Friend. They also had some other news that they announced this past week…and you can be rest assured the two hosts will talk about it in the next episode!

38:45: Akiko Higashimura’s Do You Remember Me? has been added to Tapas — Higashimura also has now gotten into NFTs! W-welp!

41:38: The FMA: Revenge of Scar live-action film is going to be on Netflix August 20; The Teasing Master Takagi-san movie will be in theaters August 14-15.

Weird News

42:32: Needless to say, Justin and Helen were stunned when Crunchyroll announced they were dubbing season 1 of Natsume’s Book of Friends. Season 1 came out in 2008!

44:00: The two long-running shounen creators, Eiichiro Oda and Gosho Aoyama, will have a landmark joint interview that I’m sure will excite manga fans all around the world.

44:57: The creator of Booty Royale: Never Go Down Without a Fight! is retiring from the manga industry due to circumstances at his home. Both hosts speculate as to what those circumstances were!

46:27: Demon Slayer trains are back in LA! No promotion of a movie, just Demon Slayer’s real popular.

47:02: If you were thinking Soramachi will be getting an anime reboot anytime soon to join some recent ones, the creator of the manga has some bad news.

47:57: And finally, a voice-over competition cancelled its casting call for its isekai NFT anime…because that’s two things in one sentence that do not belong together.
