It's Not My Fault TheOASG Podcast is Not Popular!

Show Notes

0:00: Justin and Helen explain what’s been up with them over the past few weeks, which ranges for one of the hosts to finally read Tearmoon Empire, while the other discusses the Macross Plus experience.

Pandemic News

12:14: Not that the hosts are breaking news, but yes, pandemic is still here and new variants have emerged. And since last episode, it certainly feels like it has picked up.

News

14:05: Got not only the hosts talking about someone in a Japanese creative unit getting found guilty of sexually assaulting a minor, we’re getting a new anime based off the work of someone charged with CP.

18:29: A number of notable talents passed away over the past few weeks, from Keiko Nobumoto to Sayaka Kanda, which Justin and Helen discuss a bit, as their impact on the industry has been notable across the board.

Licenses

22:36: Seven Seas has announced they’ve licensed the following three manga:

  • Tooru’s Crossplay Love: Otaku x Punk
  • sono.N’s SHWD
  • Touko Amekawa, Hinoki Kino, & Wan Hachipisu’s 7th Time Loop: The Villainess Enjoys a Carefree Life Married to Her Worst Enemy! (manga, they have licensed the LN)

23:44: UDON will be publishing Yasuki Tanaka’s Summertime Rendering in print next year! Will they have a volume out before the anime debuts will be the question though.

24:27: Manga Planet has announced they’ve licensed Azure Konno’s Koe de Oshigoto!; Azuki will now be the current and future streaming home for Kaiten Books titles.

25:16: NTT Solmare Corporation will be launching a US digital store called MangaPlaza sometime in Spring 2022, which will make this the 1,000th service Kodansha will find themselves on; Cross Infinite World licensed four new titles:

  • Kosuzu Kobato & Hinano Chano’s I’d Rather Have a Cat than a Harem! Reincarnated into the World of an Otome Game as a Cat-loving Villainess
  • Fuurou & Yuki Nekozuki’s So You Want to Live the Slow Life? A Guide to Life in the Beastly Wilds
  • Haruko Kurimoto & Vinegar’s Reflection of Another World
  • Ryuuou & Ririnra’s Even Dogs Go to Other Worlds: Life in Another World with My Beloved Hound

27:00: And after all of the planning, Justin did forget a new digital publisher exists: Animate International, and they’ve licensed: Eiji Nagisa’s Kabukicho Bad Trip, Tamekou’s Lala’s Married Life, & Toworu Miyata’s Living With Him.

27:55: The ComicFesta anime Everything for Demon King Evelogia has been licensed by Ascendant Animation, so more spicy anime will be dubbed!

Licenses?!?

34:20: So it was at the 31:41 mark of the episode where Helen realized, after the two hosts talked about Lupin, they did not talk about Discotek Day, and Discotek announced a lot:

  • Skull-face Bookseller Honda-san
  • Tales of Phantasia the Animation
  • Ms. vampire who lives in my neighborhood
  • Galactic Gale Baxinger
  • Cat’s Eye
  • As Miss Beelzebub Likes
  • Yowamushi Pedal New Generation
  • You Are Umasou
  • Angel Cop
  • Lupin the 3rd: Part I
  • Lupin III: Episode 0 ‘First Contact’
  • Mon Colle Knights (with the English dub!)
  • City Hunter 3
  • City Hunter ’91
  • Urusei Yatsura: Lum The Forever

The two also remark on just how expansive their release of the Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon will be!

Weird News

39:17: And now it’s finally onto weird news, and Justin and Helen discuss the shocking announcement: that Netflix has cancelled Cowboy Bebop…well, at least, shocked they’ve announced they’ve cancelled this pretty fast.

43:52: Ken Akamatsu appears he’s going to end his current profession and instead move into politics. He’s commented on certain topics in the past, so Justin thinks this probably shouldn’t be a surprise.

46:10: Magia Record was supposed to air this Winter, butttttt it’s now delayed to Spring 2022.

47:29: ufotable founder Hikaru Kondo has finally gotten his sentence for tax evasion, which just about wraps up this situation up.

48:15: The real-life inspiration for the café in the opening episodes of the A Place Further Than the Universe anime is shutting down due to the owner’s health.

48:57: We got more famous athletes doing nerdy things! Justin had to talk about this one.

50:00: Is it possible for a game to be too popular? Apparently so, as Final Fantasy XIV was so popular that SQENIX had to suspended sales of the game…Helen can’t believe it. Also this led to the both discussing the current business vs. public divide at the moment in society.
