Pandemic News

16:35: A number of people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Japan, and more people have been impacted since the two hosts recorded this episode and they’ll talk about that next episode; Arcades have been closing down in Japan over the last year, and now there’s a new one that’ll be shutting down; Saikoucon didn’t just cancel this year’s event, they’re not planning future events, and the two hosts expect this won’t be the only convention that’ll do the same.

27:51: There will be a new chapter for Kentarou Miura’s Berserk, and the magazine it’ll run in will be a memorial issue to honor him; the Animator Dormitory Project said that 90% of animators quit within 3 years…Justin and Helen are not surprised; American pioneer and Astro Boy producer Fred Ladd passed away at 94.

31:07: Seven Seas licensed three Mo Xiang Tong Xiu’s danmei/BL novels:

40:44: SuBLime announced on their 801 Day Livestream that they’ll be releasing a limited-edition version of Yaichirin Bitch Club Volume 4, and they’ll Akane Abe’s Moon & Sun starting in July.

43:08: COMPASS Inc. has released Kazuma Kodaka’s BORDER series; Dark Horse licensed Wataru Nadatani’s Cat + Gamer; Cross Infinite World licensed Eiko Mutsuhana & Hiyori Asahikawa’s Return from Death: I Kicked the Bucket and Now I’m Back at Square One With a Boyfriend Who Doesn’t Remember Me; Shonen Jump (and later MANGA Plus) has added Nene Yukimori’s Kubo-san Won’t Let Me Be Invisible to its service; Mangamo announced at their VCRX panel that they will add Motoka Murakami’s JIN to its platform J-Novel Club will release hardcover versions of Kanata Yanagino & Kususaga Rin’s The Faraway Paladin light novels in March.

46:02: Rightstuf is gauging interest in whether people would be interested in TOKYOPOP reprinting Kozue Amano’s Aria the Masterpiece series, which is fairly rare for a company to ask.

48:20: Discotek had a panel at Otakon, and Helen was there to experience them announce the following titles:

Streaming News

53:28: Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 6: Stone Ocean will of course be streaming…but on Netflix! Not Crunchyroll. Everyone is wondering how this could’ve happened (ok there is an explanation but it’s still surprising), and aside from it streaming worldwide, we are all wondering how Netflix will stream it.

55:09: At their VCRX panel Crunchyroll announced a few early streaming titles:

  • The Faraway Paladin (Fall 2021)
  • World’s End Harem (Fall 2021)
  • The Strongest Sage With the Weakest Crest (January 2022)

56:08: More Detective Conan has been added to Crunchyroll, but it’s the remastered versions! It even has the eyecatches and OP/EDs, which of course Justin noticed; 2 Food Wars OVAs and 3 Haikyuu! OAD have been added to Crunchyroll, with 3 more Food Wars OVAs to be added soon; Monster Strike the Movie: Lucifer Dawn of Despair is also now up on Crunchyroll.

58:30: RetroCrush is now up on Redbox, and the following titles are now up or will be up on RetroCrush’s service soon:

Main Topic: Crunchyroll and Funimation is back together again!

1:00:54: While Justin and Helen don’t know everything, they do know Crunchyroll and Funimation are finally back together again! The two hosts discuss as much as they can about this despite the lack of information, from Sony buying it from AT&T to the Sentai/Crunchyroll partnership that’s definitely in question now, to us never forgetting that AT&T played a big role in why this happened.

Weird News

1:12:36: Helen went to the AnimeEigo panel at Otakon and they explained how they found Project A-Ko. The panel went places, including their founder explaining why they haven’t licensed hentai.

1:15:39: If you thought GoHands would just go down without a fight…they aren’t! Justin and Helen discuss them suing King Records for unpaid money, which also leads to the two hosts calling all of the thieves and hackers since apparently GoHands already finished the first 13 episodes of Tokyo Babylon.

1:18:36: The final Evangelion film is out, and this is another series that has a dub from a different studio.

1:20:39: Many references to anime and manga were made at the 2020 Olympics, and yes, Demon Slayer is totally involved at the end.

1:25:00: A new what kind of crossover has happened, and on the surface, it seems totally unlikely.

1:25:49: Demon Slayer is really partnering with 105 sports teams. That…that’s a lot.

1:26:50: Shoji Sato announced that his and Kenji Saito’s God Shining Moonlight Howling Moon “temporarily ends”. The two hosts wonder why it’s temporary.

1:27:36: Anime so mainstream, Crunchyroll and Precure are now in the Sunday Comic Strips!
