The Rose of Versailles, Sugar Sugar Rune

UDON has confirmed to TheOASG that both Riyoko Ikeda’s The Rose of Versailles and Moyoco Anno’s Sugar Sugar Rune are still being worked on, and are in production.

“We can confirm that Rose of Versailles is still in the works,” says Megan Maiden, who is the Marketing and Social Media Manager at UDON. “While we are hoping to have Volume 1 ready for publication this year, we are waiting on an updated status from our production team. Once we have details, dates, and the updated cover we will send out an updated press release.”

For The Rose of Versailles, updates have been strange since UDON announced they licensed it in 2015. There have been different translators who have worked on it over the past few years. They mentioned that 80% of the series has been completed in January last year. Udon’s Chief of Operations Erik Ko announced at SDCC 2018 that they would reveal the covers for Rose of Versailles “next week”. That was in July, and nothing has been revealed since then. So outside of answering questions regarding its release on social media over the past couple years, it’s been a mystery as to what’s really going on.

“We know the fans are looking forward to this release,” mentioned Megan, “And we hope to have more details very soon.”

As for Sugar Sugar Rune, that’s been more mysterious as little has come out regarding that, except during an update in the RoV article:

…we are doing a complete remastering, so we are actually rescanning all the pages from Moyoco-sensei’s archive. The gathering of all the materials is taking some time.

Sugar Sugar Rune is also still in production but I don’t have any additional info from our designer yet on this title,” said Megan on what stage this manga is at.

The manga was also licensed alongside Rose of Versailles at SDCC in 2015.
