Gather 'Round for Anime Game Night

This year, International TableTop Day was moved from April to June 1st. As usual, there will be a lot of livestreaming board games, giveaways and events at stores, and local gatherings of gaming fans. But whether you’re a big time board game player or just play on occasion, here are some new anime-inspired games you might want to try out.

Death Note Confrontation – $21.75 at Amazon

Death Note Confrontation

As you might expect of a Death Note game, this is a 1v1 game where one player is Kira and the other is L. Each has their own victory conditions: Kira needs to kill criminals to earn enough points to win while L tries to expose Kira’s true identity. Unlike most games, this one has a limited number of plays since the players will write in the included notebooks.

Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal Dice Challenge – $24.97 at Game Nerdz

Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal Dice Challenge

This two-player game technically isn’t a new game but an upgraded version of Button Men. There was a Sailor Moon version of Button Men years ago, but this one brings special powers, pretty dice, and fun lanyards. Yes, lanyards. So even if you aren’t a player, you can still get some cute Sailor Moon merchandise out of the deal. The expansion is due out soon, but since it uses Season III artstyle, it’s going to clash somewhat with the Season 1-2 Crystal artwork.

Robotech: Ace Pilot – $17.49 at Right Stuf

Robotech Ace Pilot

Robotech is probably not your first choice when you think of likely anime franchises to spin off into board games, but here it is! This is another dice game for up to four players, but this time, players use their rolls to choose a pilot to attack enemy ships on a 3×3 grid. Pretty unique in that you don’t just stick to playing as one character for the whole game.

Super Mario Top Trumps Match – $18.99 at Amazon

Super Mario Top Trumps Match

You can find this game at a lot of major retailers for about the same price, so you can find the best deal for your budget (coupons, free shipping fillers, etc.). A relatively simple game but a step up from the similar Connect 4. Portable and a good option for the younger crowd who want a bit of a Mario Party flavor in real life.

Terra Formars Dice Game – $14.97 at Cardhaus

Terra Formars Dice Game

This is a dice game for up to four players. Part dice rolling and part resource management, players roll the dice to fulfill objectives on cards to defeat cockroaches. Unlike a lot of other games in these TableTop Day lists, this one is in a relatively small package, making it easier to transport and store.

Shipping starts at about $8 or is free on $125+.
