Nonon's Otaku Theater Spring Season 2020 Anime Preview

I’m not going to lie when I say that I’m getting more and more concerned about what will happen for all of us in the future. Some non-anime stuff has started up for me, but I won’t be getting into that. Meanwhile, conventions, episodes and whole shows are being affected left, right and center. Eh…I’m getting more and more depressed the more I talk about this, so I’ll just stop here. In the meantime, we all have anime to watch…what anime is left, that is…

Tamayomi Episode 6

Out of all the shows that have been delayed and postponed, I would have thought that a lesser known show like Tamayomi would be among them, and yet here it is still, carrying on as normal…and I am not complaining one bit.

Tamayomi

Tamayomi has had a couple of blips so far, but it has otherwise been a solid show for me, and I don’t even care if, by the end of this season, it ends up being one of those shows that barely anyone will remember or have even heard of. Episode 6 this week for me, and Nozomi continues to be the girl that I’m liking the most out of everyone in the team, despite the fact that the show is meant to focus on Yomi and Tamaki, and the pairing/promise/whatever they have. Sad to say that, for me, those two almost appear less and less prominent as each episode goes by, with the secondary characters all having their time to shine. Well since this week’s episode highlights the fact that Yomi’s birthday is coming up, the show can sort of get back to what we were expecting, and Yomi and Tamaki can get back to center stage.

Tamayomi

I still think that the secondary characters are getting a lot more attention than I was expecting. Even after what happens after this game against another school team, some girls in the team are still finding a lot of flaws in how they play baseball, and are choosing to wallow in depression and think more about how much better they could have played…people like Nozomi. We see Yoshino being the one girl who cheers everyone up, but I know that if I were Nozomi, and I were in the position that she is in, I’m not sure if this optimism would be enough for me. That’s only me though; I don’t even play baseball, and know nothing about it. So even though I know nothing about the game, should Tamayomi have been a good pick for this Spring season? Saying that though, there’s a good chance that if I’d have picked anything else, it would have been delayed.

Wave, Listen to Me! Episode 6

It seems that Minare’s ad-lib live radio broadcast was a success…at least for Mato. As for the folk who were actually up at 3.30am and listened to it, I’m sure they were a mixture of entertained and frightened to hear about a story of a woman who murders someone and finds enlightenment when a UFO arrives. I’m not going to lie that Wave, Listen to Me! has been a bit of a crazy watch, but that is exactly why I’m enjoying it as much as I am. This week is the aftermath of the broadcast, and it seems Mato wants Minare to go at it again, but he tells her that it doesn’t have to be live, and can instead be a recording. I would think this comes as a bit of a relief for Minare, as she doesn’t have to panic so much about how crazy her ad-lib story ends up becoming; she’ll have time to think about the ad-lib story.

This week, however, might just be the craziest episode yet, as a strange fax is sent to the radio station addressed to Minare.

This comes just as Mato also says that Minare can be responsible for planning the story for the next broadcast, and as she is struggling with something to think about, this strange fax comes, which she discovers actually comes from a former neighbor, who is a bit of a creep. I don’t really want to spoil too much here, as I know it’ll all be fully explained next week, but I guarantee you, it’ll be a treat to watch…that’s providing that you’re enjoying the show too. I know that Wave, Listen to Me! has been a show that has not won everyone over, and I think that it is not just because of the main protagonist that is dividing opinion, but it’s also down to how offbeat the whole show is. One thing I know for sure is that if future episodes will be as bizarre as this one (and potentially next week’s one), then bring it on.

Kaguya-sama: Love is War Season 2 Episode 5

Kaguya-sama: Love is War

We also notice, by watching this week’s episode of Kaguya-sama: Love is War, that future episodes look just as exciting and crazy; I am really enjoying this new style for the anime that the script-writers have put here…by creating a show with a much more linear plot. Another thing I am also really enjoying is how we see how the former SHAFT staff gets to play. As an old SHAFT fan myself, I could recognize all the little animation traits that were used in past shows like the Monogatari series and March Comes In Like a Lion, alongside lesser known shows like Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko and the more recent Fate/Extra: Last Encore. Thankfully, they aren’t letting Kaguya, Miyuki, Chika or Ishigami headtilt; I think that would totally ruin it. Anyways, back to Kaguya-sama: Love is War

Last week, I predicted that we’d get to see more of what kind of person election rival Miko Iino is, and we definitely see that here. With parents who brought her up to believe in discipline, order and justice at an early age, Miko sees this opportunity to become Student Council President to bring some order and justice into the school. I see that she doesn’t even care that she’s only a first-year, either…

…and with what Miko plans to bring to the school when she announces her election pledges, even some of our main protagonists are thinking hard about whether reapplying to be in the Student Council is a good idea or not. I definitely won’t spoil that, and I know for sure that the introduction of a character like Miko hasn’t come at a more perfect time. Here I was, initially worrying whether a second season of what already is an amazing school comedy would be any good…well color me impressed.

Wotakoi: Love Is Hard For Otaku Episode 6

Last week I asked you guys what exactly I was missing as I was watching Wotakoi. Episode 6 for me this week, and while this is the Christmas episode of the show, I still can’t find anything.

No progress whatsoever has been made when it comes to Narumi and Hirotaka; I’m pretty sure that each of them wants this relationship of theirs to progress, but right now, it’s like nothing is happening at all. I mean, this is the Christmas episode, and I would have thought that, of all times, a Christmas episode would have been the perfect time to say that they want more. Hanako and Kabakura totally get it, and that’s why I like them much more. Hanako talks about how much last year’s Christmas sucked for her, and so this year, Kabakura makes it up for her the best he can by reserving a table at a fancy restaurant on Christmas Eve.

Wotakoi: Love Is Hard For Otaku

Oh, what am I supposed to do here? What exactly are the things I should pick out and praise the most in this show? I’m only halfway through this show now, and not even the Christmas episode has made me have a more positive outlook of this show. Saying all of this, I know that a lot of people enjoyed this when it originally aired, and I know that this kind of comedy would be my cup of tea, as well. I really don’t know what to do anymore; of course, I have hope that the remaining 5 episodes will give the show some kind of story, and show us that Narumi and Hirotaka’s relationship actually has some substance. I guess I’m just growing a little impatient, that’s all.

Wotakoi: Love Is Hard For Otaku

As I type this week’s post, my country’s government has thought up some really ridiculous ideas on how to recover from this pandemic; ideas that could well make things worse. I wonder if I just ignore the news entirely, I won’t be as depressed anymore. At least the shows I’m watching have been pretty solid…well, with the exception of Wotakoi. Seems like anime has become even more of an escape and relief for some of us in these trying times, so how has this escape and relief been for you?
